Product Description
This unique small knife uses Aogami steel, known for its exceptional sharpness, and is crafted by wrapping another material around a base of Ren-tetsu (wrought iron), a vintage material. This creates a distinctive texture and construction.
Crafted by Sadaichiro Okubo, the third-generation blacksmith of Yoita.
Born January 1950.
He is one of the few blacksmiths in Japan today who possesses the ancient forging technique, passed down through 90 years of steelworking history since the company's founding. He is capable of crafting chisels, knives, and more using this method.
His grandfather, First Sadajiro, received numerous awards, starting with the Gold Prize at the National Cutlery Exhibition in Aichi Prefecture in 1925.
The second generation, Sadazuke, was a master craftsman who received the Prime Minister's Award in 1942. He also received an honorable mention at the Niigata Prefecture Cutlery Exhibition in 1952, and numerous other awards, making them a prestigious lineage of blacksmiths.
These forging and polishing techniques, passed down through generations, have been inherited by the third generation, Sadaichiro. He is currently active as a member of organizations such as the Echigo Yoita Cutlery Research Association and the Cutlery Masters Association.
He is a modern master craftsman who confidently states, I have absolute confidence in its sharpness, freely utilizing steels such as Shirogami No. 1, Aogami No. 1, and high-speed steel.
Knives forged by Sadaichiro, who believes in constant research and training, are beautiful and, of course, possess outstanding sharpness.
