This is an inkstone made from Nachi-kuro stone, a specialty product of Kumano City, Mie Prefecture.

Nachi-kuro stone is characterized by its fine texture, moderate hardness, and stickiness, and has been highly valued as a material for inkstones and Go stones (black stones) since ancient times. This inkstone is processed into a shape that takes advantage of the natural texture of the stone, and the part where ink is ground in the center is smoothly finished.
