Two J.S. Saurman Cabinet Cards St Joseph MO 1885-87 Victorian Photos

Pair of original antique cabinet card photographs by James S. Saurman, photographer at 311 Felix Street, St. Joseph, Missouri. Research identifies J. S. Saurman as working as a photographer in St. Joseph during approximately 1885–1887, allowing these portraits to be dated much more closely than many unidentified Victorian cabinet cards. The pair includes: • Portrait of an older woman wearing a dark textured dress or shawl with an oval brooch at her collar. The front mount is clearly marked “J. S. Saurman, 311 Felix St., St. Joseph, Mo.” • Full-length portrait of a young man standing beside an ornate studio pedestal. The reverse features an elaborate printed advertisement reading “J. S. Saurman – Artist Photographer – 311 Felix Street – St. Joseph, Mo.” Approximately 6.5 x 4.25 each. Both are original 19th-century photographs and not reproductions. They show expected age-related toning, fading, spotting and minor edge/corner wear. Please see photos closely for exact condition. An especially nice matched studio pair for collectors of Victorian photography, Missouri history, St. Joseph memorabilia, cabinet cards, genealogy and early American photography. Circa 1885–1887.
