Takaoka Art Casting is a term used to refer to the advanced casting technology, particularly for Buddhist altars, ornaments, and art objects, within the casting industry that has developed in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture.
Takaoka developed as a casting town about 400 years ago when Maeda Toshinaga invited metal casters upon founding the city, and it eventually became known nationwide as a production area for art crafts such as Buddhist altars, vases, and ornaments.
