Vintage W Germany Westerwald Salt Glaze Stoneware 1L Pitcher Cobalt Blue
Unmarked
Vintage West German Westerwald-style stoneware pitcher featuring traditional gray/cream salt-glazed stoneware w/ hand-applied cobalt blue decoration. The pitcher has a rounded bulbous body, flared pouring spout, substantial applied handle, & decorative cobalt bands around the neck & base. One side features a large, bold cobalt blue floral/foliate motif, while the opposite side has a smaller stylized hand-painted design. The variations in the decoration & glaze give the piece the character associated w/ traditional handcrafted German stoneware. The base is impressed “W. GERMANY,” dating the piece to the West German period (1949–90). Based on the form & decoration, it's likely a mid-to-late 20th-century piece. Additional impressed markings appear to indicate 1-liter capacity. Approximate measurements: * H 7.25” * W including handle: 6” * Depth: 6.5” * Capacity: 1 liter Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition w/ age-appropriate variations in the glaze & pottery. There are small pits/indentations along the rim that appear consistent w/ the handmade manufacturing/firing process rather than later damage. Some minor discoloration & surface wear are present. Please review all photos closely, as they are part of the condition description. A distinctive piece of vintage West German pottery that works beautifully as a functional pitcher, vase, or decorative accent & complements Westerwald, German salt-glaze, cobalt pottery, folk art, farmhouse, & European pottery collections.
