Antique Honeybee, Lotus, and Leaf Open Cutwork Bobbin Lace Drapey Linen Panel

A rare and beautiful 5-layer antique lace panel, depicting a landscape where bees from France or England fly among blooming lotuses, rendered through techniques like Richelieu embroidery.

This lyrical and poetic work gracefully conveys the scene of bees fluttering around lotuses blooming in a pond, as if drawn to them, evoking a sense of coolness, freshness, and vibrancy.

Plants, small animals (insects), and pure nature are lyrically expressed through delicate embroidery, including open cutwork and eyelets.

Soft bobbin lace doilies in large and small squares/rounds are inset, adding to the gentle atmosphere.

The sides are finished with a narrow, hand-stitched hem. Bobbin lace made of linen is attached to the top and bottom, with bobbin tape inserted horizontally near the hem. The hem features a scalloped edge, creating a cool and elegant finish.

The attractive ecru tone, with a hint of pale green, is characteristic of antiques, exuding a refined transparency and a subtle, elegant sheen.

Woven sheer with very fine threads, the cotton & (linen & silk) lawn fabric is exceptionally smooth, soft, and has a pleasant crispness. It feels light and airy, with a flowing or silky texture. Its delicate charm and quality are astonishing upon touch and close inspection.

Due to the delicate, thin fabric, there are approximately 10 carefully made repairs with very fine threads for tears, rips, and unraveling. The largest measures about 4.5 cm x 0.9 cm. They are subtle and blend in with the overall eyelets and embroidery. There are a few small, brownish age spots within the bobbin lace and small holes in the fabric, barely noticeable, like pinpricks. This piece is recommended for those who appreciate the care and affection put into handmade items and do not mind minor imperfections.
